John, who played for Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Barnsley, Leeds, Coventry and Bradford has seen Mark Senior's coaching first hand and endorsed the programme, saying: "Mark coached my son for a full season. As well as the sessions being enjoyable, they were informative to the youngsters. My son definitely improved as a player!" REUBEN SIGNS FOR BARNSLEY ACADEMY!Reuben Newby became the 28th young player coming through our talent centre programme when following a six week trial at Barnsley FC Academy, he has signed a one-year contract!
TALENT NDLOVU ALSO SIGNS FOR BARNSLEYAs Barnsley FC lined up at Wembley for the semi final of the FA Cup last week, a young aspiring footballer named Talent Ndlovu watched his new club, dreaming of one day playing on such a stage. Coach Mark Senior was amazed at the skill level of a young Zimbabwean player at an after school football club at Barkerend Primary School in the BD3 area of Bradford and invited him into the very successful Yorkshire Advanced Football Centre. Aged 10, Talent was showing unbelievable raw skill, learnt on the streets in his native Zimbabwe. Mark said, "the tricks and skills and balance of Talent just shows that you dont need great equipment, facilities and coaching to become highly skilled. Talent practised his skills in the streets and on areas that kids simply dont play on in england anymore!" Mark took the under 11 group from the Yorkshire Advanced Football Centre to play against Barnsleys Academy under 11s and two players, Kane Welsh from Thackley and Talent Ndlovu were asked to attend a 6 week trial. Talent was asked to sign following his first training session, showing how impressed the coaches including Dave Hancock were of his abilities. Talent is now playing against the like of Manchester United, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town and it is hoped he can continue to develop naturally along the path to bigger and better things. A spokesperson from the school stated, "its great to have a young player from our school doing so well and joining a professional club. With the help of Mark's coaching in our after school programme we have developed a strong group of players who are doing well in their inter-school competitions and also beginning to join local junior football clubs in the area, something of which was unheard of 3 years ago." The Yorkshire Advanced Football Centre have also recently played Barnsley at other age groups and the under 8 group recently played against Bradford City with several players showing vast improvements since the programme first started in October 2007. Mark Senior and Mick Couzens have also a new scouting programme in the community to discover and work with young, talented players. This summer the centre will be running sessions for all ages from 3-18 at Goals soccer centre/ Hanson School for both advanced players doing well in their club teams and also for all abilities in open skills and 4v4 coaching sessions.
